Course Structure 

The AFMCP program is organized into chapters, consisting of on-demand video lectures, and facilitated Q&As. Course includes knowledge self-checks after each chapter to ensure comprehension of the material presented. Learners are also encouraged to complete optional chapter prompts in the discussion forum. Chapter prompts are eligible for CME for those who have purchased the CME add-on.

How to Access

Access the presentations, clinical toolkit, course materials, and video transcripts—all in IFM’s Online Learning Platform. Everything you need to support your AFMCP learning journey is here, from videos and transcripts to downloadable presentation decks.

Note: MP3 and MP4 recordings will only be available for course completers once the cohort has ended. You will be able to access course media for up to one year post-cohort.

How to access the course :

  1. Go to the IFM website and click Log In in the top right corner to access My Account
  2. For Desktop Users:
    • In My Account, select My Education from the menu on the left.
  3. For Mobile Users:
    • In My Account, tap Sections, then choose My Education from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the Online Learning Platform, click the My Courses tile.
  5. Navigate to the AFMCP (Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice) folder.
  6. Launch AFMCP January 2026 Curriculum.

Technology Requirements

For the best learning experience, we recommend accessing the course on a desktop computer. Please make sure your computer or mobile device meets the following technology requirements before staring the course:

  • Access to a high-speed internet connection: 3.5 Mbps download speed or higher. Test your internet speed
  • A supported operating system: Windows 7 or newer, Mac OS 10.7 or newer. 
  • A supported browser: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari (macOS / iOS), Android (Tablet / Mobile).
  • Functioning internal or external speakers.

Registration Policy

Program materials and certificates of completion are delivered to you through your personal IFM online account. Online access cannot be shared – course materials, course content, and CME/CE credit are provided to the individual registrant only. For this reason, you may not register multiple people or someone other than yourself. No registrations will be taken after 4:00 pm PT, Monday, January 19, 2026.

Participation Policy

Participants of the AFMCP course have 11 weeks from the course start date (MOnday,  January 12) to complete the program; 11-week access to a selection of IFM’s Clinical Practice Toolkit is included beginning on the course start date (Monday, January 12). Learners who do not complete within the time frame will lose access to all course materials. Our systems do not allow for course extensions for any reason. No partial CME/CE credit will be awarded.

Remember, it is required that you participate in this program. To fulfill the participation requirements necessary for the course to count toward certification, you must log in and complete the course, as applicable, and also complete any required knowledge checks and/or evaluations by the stated deadline. Where applicable, course knowledge check and/or evaluation instructions will be emailed to you after registration and/or at the conclusion of the course. For courses that qualify for CME/CE credit, to receive purchased CME/CE credit, you must complete any required course components by the stated deadline within the course.

 

CME/CE Policy

The CME/CE option is intended for clinicians who need to fulfill continuing education requirements. Selecting the CME/CE option ensures your certificate of completion will indicate CME/CE hours of participation. If you do not need CME/CE credit, you may choose to purchase the non-CME option instead. Except as otherwise prohibited by applicable laws, this CME/CE credit option is non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be changed once the course begins. To receive CME/CE credit, you must complete the course within the specified time frame. Learners who do not complete the course on time will lose access to all course materials and forfeit all CME/CE credit. Credit is only awarded upon full completion of all required coursework; no partial credit will be given for incomplete participation.
 

Cancellation Policy

November 14, 2025 – January 11, 2026*  Refund less 25% administrative fee.
January 12, 2026 – January 27, 2026*  Refund less 50% administrative fee.
January 28, 2026 – End of course No refund.

*Next tier of fees in effect at midnight Pacific Time 

CME credits and course materials are not available for those who choose to cancel their registration or fail to complete the course within 11 weeks. Only those who complete the course will receive CME credit, if applicable, and credit toward the certification program. If you have completed your purchase through Affirm, your cancellation will incur an additional fee of up to 6%.

Cancellation requests must be submitted via the Course Cancellation Form. IFM will reply with a written acknowledgement once processed.

Switch Fee Policy   
January 12 –  February 19, 2026*  $150 USD
February 20, 2026 – March 26, 2026*  $300 USD
After March 26, 2026*  No switch permitted.

*Next tier of fees in effect at midnight Pacific Time 

Requests to switch must be submitted in writing to info@ifm.org. Switches can only be made from the current AFMCP offering to the next cohort.

Course educators will provide live moderation during select weeks of the program. In the Forum on the lefthand menu, you will see dedicated feeds with each educator’s name. To open a feed, click on their name. Educators will only provide moderation during the dates listed on their feed.

To get the most out of your learning, apply what you have learned into your practice.

  • Attempt to immediately begin performing a functional nutrition exam on patients in your practice.
  • Reflect on the experience and share it on the Online Clinical Community Forum.

How do I tag an IFM moderator or fellow member on my post?

To have your post viewed directly by an IFM moderator or forum member, please add within the post an ‘@’ followed by the account name you wish to be notified.

How do I download the Forum app?

You can download the app directly from the App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Mighty Networks.” The iOS app is compatible for both iPhone and iPad, and the Android app is designed to work perfectly with your favorite Android device. Once the app is downloaded sign-in with the email and password you created originally though your forum invite email.

Complimentary Laboratory Testing & Interpretation Program

As part of the AFMCP cohort, program participants receive a complimentary stool analysis lab test. IFM has partnered with Genova Diagnostics to offer participants this additional training opportunity. Please refer to Lab Kit handout (pdf) for information on license requirements and how to request the Collection Pack.

For Students, International, and Non-Licensed Degree Types

  • Genova Diagnostics is licensed by CLIA, the Federal agency regulating laboratories.
    Check with the lab to see if you qualify or have additional questions.
  • CLIA regulations require practitioners to have a licensure scope which allows them to order laboratory testing. Acceptable licenses in all 50 states include MD, DO, NP, PA and APRN.
  • Other practitioners may have the appropriate licensure scope within their state. 
    International: Partners should consult with lab representatives for availability of test kits in countries outside the US.
